NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR LAW REPORTING
Position: Assistant Law Reporter (2 Positions)  

Terms of Service : 3 year contract with prospects of renewal.

Salary : According to council scales

Reporting to the Senior Law Reporter, the successful applicant will be responsible for the following:
1.With the assistance of the Assistant Reporter and in conjunction with the editorial team, conducting legal research, identifying and evaluating legal issues and emerging trends in criminal and civil litigation for inclusion in the editorial process;
2. Selecting cases to be reported as per the prepared Council schedule;
3. Perusing selected judgments and extracting important details set out on schedule;
4. Preparation of draft edits
5. Liasing with Law Reporter on the editorial process;
6. Any other tasks that may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications
Requirements for this position will be as follows:
1. A Degree in Law from a recognized university;
2. An Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
3. Excellent mastery of spoken and written English;
4. Strong IT skills, particularly in the following areas:
  • server access and network communication on a Microsoft Office platform;
  • document creation, editing and management using Microsoft Office packages
  • PageMaker and QuarkXpress;

5. Highly developed library-use and research skills and a strong interest in and understanding of contemporary and emerging legal issues;
6. Ability to evaluate and analyze legal issues;
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
