GAZETTE NOTICE No. 6048 THE ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND CO-ORDINATION ACT (No. 8 of 1999) THE NATIONAL ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY EINVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSEMENT STUDY REPORT FOR THE PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION OF KISUMU OIL JETTY (KOJ) IN KISUMU INVITATION OF PUBLIC COMMENTS PURSUANT to regulation 21 of Environmental (Impact Assessment and Audit) Regulations, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received an environmental impact assessment study report for the implementation of the proposed construction of Kisumu Oil Jetty (KOJ) The proposed project is to promote pipeline capacity utilization at K.P.C. Kisumu Depot (PS28) in order to enhance efficient transfer of petroleum products through Lake Victoria to mainly northern Tanzania. The proposed project is located in Kisumu City, Kisumu District of Nyanza Province. The proposed Jetty is to be constructed within the Kisumu Bay at the shoreline of the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) Deposit on the Western Side of the Kisumy harbor. The project anticipates the impacts and mitigation measures set out in the gazette. The proposed project will include the construction of the following infrastructure : LPG storage area comprising of ten steel LPG mounted tanks having a total capacity of 1,000 metric tons, cylinder filing area oxygen plant, cylinder revalidation plant, compressor/pump house, LPG truck loading gantries, LPG accessories store, office block and switch room, a fire water tank and pump house, rail loading facility, fire equipment shed, gas/trap and drainage. The project will be located on plot NO. L.R. 25799/2 in Mlolongo, Mavoko. The project anticipates the impacts and mitigation measures set out in the gazette.
