The National Council for Law Reporting (Kenya Law) is a State Corporation established under the National Council for Law Reporting Act, 1994. Its mandate is:

  1. To monitor and report on the development of Kenyan jurisprudence through the publication of the Kenya Law Reports;
  2. To revise, consolidate and publish the Laws of Kenya under delegated authority from the Attorney General; and
  3. To undertake such other related publications and perform such other functions as may be conferred by law.

Kenya Law is the focal point institution in providing access to public legal information. It is led by a Council chaired by The Hon. Chief Justice and managed through a Secretariat headed by the Editor/ Chief Executive Officer. Kenya Law's principal office is in Nairobi.

Legal Researcher - 1 Position

JOB DESCRIPTION, QUALIFICATIONS, TERMS OF SERVICE AND APPLICATION PROCEDURE

LEGAL RESEARCHER

Job Grade : KLR 7

Job Ref. No. : NCLR/ HR/ 2022/01

Reporting to : ASSISTANT LAW REPORTER

Basic monthly salary (Excluding allowances and benefits): Ksh. 39,647 - 60,331 p.m.

The job holder will be responsible for monitoring and reportingA on the development of Kenya's jurisprudence through the preparation of case summaries for the Kenya Law Reports and other legal publications as well as being responsible for the revision, updating and consolidation of the laws of Kenya.

Key responsibilities

The key duties and responsibilities tasks for this position will include:

  1. Read and review case law/ judgments.
  2. Analyse judgments with a view to identifying those cases establishing jurisprudence/ reportable for the Kenya Law Reports.
  3. Prepare case summaries for the identified cases.
  4. Monitor jurisprudence from the Courts with a view to coming up with specialized digests, casebooks, weekly reports etc.
  5. Collect and compile bills, amendment Acts and legislation as passed by Parliament and Assemblies.
  6. Collect and compile all other relevant legislation including from County Assemblies, East Africa Legislative Assembly, Treaties & Agreements etc.
  7. Copy read, proof read and ensure high legislative drafting standards in all laws of Kenya (online and print) publications.
  8. Prepare progress reports and updates for management from time to time.
  9. Undertake legal research

Professional Qualifications, Skills and Personal Attributes

The ideal candidate will be a citizen of Kenya who has the following minimum qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Law.
  2. Postgraduate diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
  3. Demonstrated proficiency in ICT.
  4. At least one-year relevant experience.
  5. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task and work under pressure amidst competing demands.

Driver – 1 Position

JOB TITLE: DRIVER III – KLR GRADE 9
Job Grade : KLR 7

Reporting to : Assistant Human Resource and Administration Officer
Basic monthly salary (Excluding allowances and benefits): Ksh. 28,278 - 47,272 p.m.

Drivers are responsible for providing transport support to authorized persons and assisting in office deliveries. The role facilitates timely, efficient and safe transportation of personnel, goods or parcels to designated places; and ensures vehicles are maintained in a clean and mechanically sound condition, and as per the legal requirements of the Government of Kenya.
Key responsibilities
The key duties and responsibilities tasks for this position will include:

  1. Driving vehicles as authorized;
  2. Carrying out routine checks on the vehicles;
  3. Detecting and report malfunctioning of vehicles system;
  4. Maintain records of vehicles;
  5. Maintain the vehicle work tickets and fuel cards for accountability
  6. Ensuring security and safety of the vehicle;
  7. Overseeing safety of the passengers and or goods therein;
  8. Maintaining cleanliness of the vehicle;
  9. Ensuring adherence to or observations of traffic laws; and,
  10. Perform other official duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Professional Qualifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:

  1. KCSE D+ or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  2. Valid driving license.
  3. Certificate of good conduct
  4. Trade Test 111
  5. Proficiency in computer applications.
  6. Fulfils the requirements of Chapter Six
