Kenya Law Bags Two Awards at the 2016 Fire Awards
Kenya Law won big at the 2016 Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards by scooping the two prizes. They include;
1. 1st Runners Up- Best Public Finance Management category evaluating organizations looking at all aspects of resource mobilization and expenditure management in government.
2. 2nd Runners up - IPSAS Accrual category (International Public Sector Accounting Standard which is the financial reporting standard for State Corporations).
The Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards are the most prestigious and coveted awards in East Africa for financial reporting. They are presented annually by the joint promoters; the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) Kenya, the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) and the Public Sector Accounting Standards Board-Kenya (PSASB).
The Awards aim at:
i. Promotion of Financial Reporting excellence
ii. Fostering of sound corporate governance practices
iii. Enhancing corporate investment and environmental reporting
This year’s event witnessed the largest number of public sector entities, which would enhanced transparency in financial reporting in Kenya’s public sector,
A total of 303 public sector entities participated in the award from government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, State Corporations and Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies, and the County Governments.
In addition to the 303 public sector entries, there are another 96 entries from the private sector across East Africa in the financial services sector, industrial, commercial and services sector, public benefits organizations, pension schemes and learning institutions, bringing the total entries to 399 in 2016 compared to 376 in 2015.
