Practice Notes

Practice Notes are general directions or guidance notes issued by the Chief Justice to assist courts and judicial staff in dealing with some of the day to day difficulties that may arise in civil and criminal matters. These difficulties are normally procedural in nature and are ungoverned by the law, but are adopted and adhered to as a matter of practice by the courts. Section 81 (3) of the Civil Procedure Act (Cap. 21) empowers the Chief Justice, in consultation with the Rules Committee, to issue practice notes or directions to resolve procedural difficulties arising under the Act in order to facilitate the attainment of the overriding objective of the Act.
