ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT STUDY REPORT
FOR THE PROPOSED REDEVELOPMENT OF SUN N SAND
BEACH RESORT ON PLOT NO. 329/3097, KIKAMBALA, KILIFI
INVITATION OF PUBLIC COMMENTS
PURSUANT to regulation 21 of Environmental (Impact Assessment and Audit) Regulations, the National Environment Management Authority, (NEMA) has received an environmental impact assessment study report for the implementation of the proposed redevelopment of Sun N Sand Beach Resort.
The proposed development for the new Sun N Sand development comprises of 332 suites in 7 buildings, 5 of which will be for clients like conference delegates and upmarket Kenyans, COMESA residents and tourists; while 2 will be approximately 5.000 sq. m. of retail space including a spa, gym, restaurants, business centre, bank, etc.
The development will be split into six construction phases:
(a) Block 1: 15 storeys, 56 suites, (27 x 2 bedroom suites and 29 x 3 bedroom suites).
(b) Block 2: 18 storeys, 68 suites, (33 x 2 bedroom suites and 35 x 3 bedroom suites).
(c) Block 3: 23 storeys, 84 suites, (42 x 2 bedroom suites and 42 x 3 bedroom suites).
(d) Block 4: 18 storeys, 68 suites, (33 x 2 bedroom suites and 35 x 3 bedroom suites).
(e) Block 5: 15 storeys, 56 suites, (27 x 2 bedroom suites and 29 x 3 bedroom suites).
(f) Block 6 and 7: 7 storeys each retail space build-out; approximately 5,000 sq. m. to be used for banks, supermarkets, conference room spa gym, restaurants, and shops.
The proposed project site for development of suits is within the Sun N Sand Beach resort. The resort is located in Kikambala, on the North Coast of Kenya. It sits approximately 13 kilometres from Vipingo Ridge Golf resort and 23 kilometres from the heart of Mombasa Island and is close to some of the North Coast’s finest cultural venues. The resort is approximately 2 kilometres from the main Mombasa–Malindi
Road.
The anticipated impacts and proposed mitigation measures are set out in the gazette.

The National Environment Management Authority invites members of the public to submit oral or written comments within thirty (30) days from the date of publication of this notice to the Director-General, NEMA, to assist the Authority in the approval process of the project.
